It would be easy for me to tell you I’ve always had a way with words, or I built this business by following the right blueprint.
But the truth is messier and more useful.
I make a living finding out the truth. And I’d like to share mine with you, and how it led me here.
A few years ago, I lost my home unexpectedly
I ended up in a friend's spare room, sitting on the floor, watching everything I thought I was building collapse at once.
I still showed up to every networking event. Delivered for every client. Kept growing the business. None of this was visible from the outside. And falling apart wasn't an option.
This chapter stripped away any interest I had in building something to merely look the part. When you're adapting to that much uncertainty, you get clear, very quickly, on what's true and what's performance.

I do what I do because writing has always been my thing
I just took the scenic route. Working in retail, administration, and even insurance broking. I volunteered for every writing opportunity in every role I was in. If there were reports to be written or policies to be edited, my hand went up to get them done.
Any spare time went to writing poetry, short stories, spoken word, and ghostwriting speeches for people who needed someone to find the right words for them. Family and friends looked forward to getting my life update emails when I lived abroad.
The break came through a secondment into a departmental communications division.
A move that changed everything
How I operate
So that’s it
The scenic route. Every parallel, sidestep and room I’ve shown up in.
All of it led me here.
Words were always underneath it.
