I’m all for faster and easier as much as the next business owner (I’m excited to be getting a VA!), but any kind of “humans are unnecessary now” narrative is about as fresh as last month’s leftovers. This steamer below from some Silicon Valley dolts certainly stopped my scroll recently.
Because nothing speaks to morale boosting marketing than slogans that purport a section of humans are now less valuable than a string of code. Talk about misguided and insulting to the incredible talent and creativity that freelancers bring to the table, AND who are a large part of what feeds these fucking platforms — unpaid and uncredited — with original content to “learn” from.
We’re not just risking a few hurt feelings in pushing an Artificial Intelligence over humans’ message; we’re literally promoting the devaluation of humanity, pesky errors and all. Last advice I got, mistakes were an invaluable and necessary part of the human experience.
It’s Us AND Them Not Us vs. Them
I know AI writers aren’t some over-hyped tech bubble waiting to burst. It’s the enthusiastic junior you recruit who actually makes everyone’s job easier. There’s no doubt these platforms are impressive, but they’re as emotionally intelligent as a toaster and as original as a “live, laugh, love” sign on the mantle. Alongside attention, authenticity is one of the highest value currencies of today. We’re surrounded by filtered and curated feeds and personas, starving people of realness and sincerity. People can feel the empty, surface level talk vibrating from a mile away.
Savvy freelancers use AI to enhance our skills, not replace them
AI can generate words, but your content writer understands the strategy that knows whether or not those words will work for your business. The paid version, best prompts and personalisation will never:
- Fully understand the pulse of your audience
- Know you and your business deeply
- Weave your brand voice into every sentence
- Read between the lines of data to find the real story
For your run-of-the-mill “Here’s our new office hours” email? Sure, let AI do that. But for content that needs to resonate, inspire, or drive action? You need a human who gets it. Who gets you, your brand and what you stand for.
